Piper

This is our new dog, Piper. He was 4 hours away from being euthanized at a shelter in West Virginia when he was taken by a no-kill rescue group. He is a very sweet dog.

Floating Lanterns

The end of "23 Things" is really just the beginning

23 things has been a fascinating journey to a place I probably wouldn't have traveled if I hadn't been offered the opportunity. For someone who enjoys and obsesses on trivia, it has been an eye-opener. There are a lot of us out there!
"To Infinity and Beyond!" It really seems that the information out there is ENDLESS. On this short trip I have learned of things I didn't know existed. Like - The Lantern Floating Ceremony (Toro Nagashi). It originated in Japan to pay respects to ancestors and to comfort the spirits of the deceased. Lanterns are set afloat on the ocean and are said to ferry spirits from the sea of delusion to the shore of salvation. On Memorial Day, 34,000 people attended the 2007 Lantern Floating Hawaii Ceremony. People of all religions attended. By the way, all 900 lanterns were retrieved and recycled! I love Japanese culture, especially Taiko drumming, which was also a part of this ceremony. If you get a chance to experience it, don't miss it.
So, I am sure I will continue to blog and learn, tata for now!

Old Fuddy Duddy

Old lady...

Well, I feel like a crotchety old lady but...I like the feel of a book in my hands, like to look at the author's picture and feel the weight of the book as I lay in bed reading. I like my many bookmarks collected over the years. I like to look at my bookshelves and occasionally pull out the almanac when I'm disagreeing with my Mom about the age of a celebrity. I don't think I'll be downloading any books in the near future, but hey, whatever floats your boat!

So Many Blogs, So Little Time

I truly enjoyed exploring Technorati by searching "Learning 2.0". Came across Voldemort's blog. Very impressive. I like his Hockneyizer mash-up. Just browsing can give you a wealth of ideas for your own blogging. I would definitely utilize Technorati. To fit in with my "Welsh Blog" theme, learned about a chocolate bar from a monastery on Caldey Island in Wales. If you'd like to check it out, the name of the blog is "Chocablog"!

I checked out the games. Whew, I needed that! I was feeling a little bogged down by my blogging!
